Body

Every city comes with its own expectations about how the body should move through it.

Stairs set a pace. Sidewalks guide movement. Benches invite us to stop. Corridors direct the flow of people. Architecture does more than arrange physical space; it also establishes expectations about how we are meant to move and behave within it. This exhibition is interested precisely in what happens when those expectations are challenged.

Skateboarding introduces different ways of engaging with the city and shows that no urban space has only one possible use. It brings out possibilities already embedded in the landscape itself. The body is no longer simply responding to decisions made by urban planners. It becomes an active interpreter, finding uses and meanings that were never part of the original design.

Skateboarding does not physically change the city, but it changes how we understand it. It shows that public space can never be completely determined by the people who design it.

Between architecture and use, there is always room for invention, shaped by politics, culture, and perception. It is within that space that new ways of understanding the city can emerge.
