Landscape

Landscape starts long before we reach the horizon. It grows out of everything a place can hold and everything we are able to notice within it. Water finds its course, animals find shelter, seasons shape movement, and life follows rhythms that existed long before we arrived. Time moves here at a pace of its own, rarely matching ours.

Every species has its own way of inhabiting a place. A heron knows a shoreline through what it provides: food, shelter, safety, a route onward. That relationship exists without the need for names or explanations. It is instinctive, immediate, and older than language.

Seen this way, landscape opens into something larger than human experience. It becomes a shared field of life, shaped by countless forms of existence that depend on the same ground, water, and cycles. A place becomes richer when we recognize how many lives are woven into it, along with all the stories unfolding without anyone there to witness them.

Landscape is part of the world that remains fully itself, even after we are gone.
