Curatorial text

A call can draw attention without demanding it. It may arise from a quiet presence, a sudden movement, or a subtle change in the rhythm of a place. Something catches our awareness and creates a reason to look again.

Much of what passes between living beings happens without language. A sound, a movement, or a change in the surroundings can shift attention and alter what happens next. Perception becomes a form of communication, guided by signals that do not need to be explained.

Across species, this exchange takes place through forms of awareness that are easy to overlook. Animals respond to their surroundings through experience, instinct, and constant attention. The presence of another being can change behavior, create anticipation, or draw one closer.

A call has the power to redirect attention. Something reaches us, and for a moment, the world becomes different from the way we had been seeing it.
